Fort Worth (Tex.) Record
Christian Scientists accept unreservedly the teaching of the Scriptures: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
Christian Science reforms the sinner by destroying his love of sin, by overcoming his belief of pleasure in sinning, and thus putting a stop to his indulgence in sin. Thus it incidentally heals disease, and in like manner prevents disease. Christian Science has succeeded in healing thousands of cases of sickness that had been given up by the regular practitioners. Sin and disease have been declared associated as cause and effect. Since "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made;" and, since "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," it might be asked whence came sin and disease. Are there two creators? Is there more than one God? "Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord." "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." In denying the reality of sin and disease Christian Scientists do this on the basis of the allness of God and the understanding that sin and disease are not a part of God's creation. There is no mention made of sin and disease in the account of Elohistic creation in the first chapter of Genesis, where it is declared that God finished His work and pronounced it very good. Christian Scientists realize that there is all about us evidence of much sorrow and suffering, of poverty and mourning; and they are daily engaged in lifting the burdens of humanity, in relieving distress and in healing the sick. More than a million living witnesses are today giving thanks unto God for their deliverance through Christian Science practice from all manner of disease and sin.
One of the great Texas dailies in a recent issue says editorially: "Men are coming to admit shamefacedly that disease is more of a penalty than a divine visitation. Society is beginning to learn what is usually meant by the dictum that health is the normal and illness the abnormal condition, which thought, when it grows stronger, will lead to the confession that illness is more of a sin than a misfortune." This clearer view of sickness indicates its remedy, and prophesies its final extirpation through reformation and spiritual regeneration and accords with the teaching of Christian Science on this subject. The only radical cure for sin and disease is the way Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated. It is the way known among Christian Scientists, who are furnishing the proof that our Master required of his followers.
