Christian Science claims that the teachings of Jesus are...

Columbus (O.) Journal

Christian Science claims that the teachings of Jesus are applicable not only to the time in which he lived, but to all time, as he indicated by his declaration: "My words shall not pass away." Christian Science claims that Jesus healed the sick and the sinning through a realization of the ever-presence and all-power of God and the use of divine Principle, which, when understood and properly applied, will always produce the same results, viz., the healing of sin and all manner of disease, even to the raising of the dead. We have the words of Jesus to the effect that all those who believe on him (understand his teachings) shall be able to do the works that he did. No healing is performed through the understanding of the teachings of Jesus, as explained by Christian Science, without at the same time raising the moral standard and uplifting one spiritually.

Is Christian Science to be condemned for claiming that not through blind faith, but through a proper understanding of God, as taught by Jesus, and the acquiring of more of that Mind in us which was in Christ Jesus, all can produce the works which Jesus demanded as proofs of discipleship? Christian Science, through its interpretation of the Scriptures and understanding of the teachings of Jesus, enables us to cast sin and sickness out of our own consciousness, whereby we remove the beam from our own eye, so that we may see clearly when called upon to help our brother remove the mote from his eye. Does Christian Science claim too much?
