Being encouraged by the many proofs of divine Love I have received, and strengthened by a firm trust in God, from whom emanates all good, all being, I give the following testimony. My desire is that through the reading of these lines a cup of water in Christ's name may be proffered to some suffering fellow-being.

Less than a year ago I first heard of Christian Science in consequence of a severe illness of my wife. I first read the pamphlet "Prayer and Confidence," and it immediately became clear to me that if one discerns the truth about God, good, according to the scientific statements of Christian Science, and adheres to it; that is, if one lets himself be governed by Spirit, the Scriptural promise that God "forgiveth all thine iniquities," and "healeth all thy diseases," is fulfilled. Through this reading wonderful promises had already been fulfilled for me, and I did not hesitate to take up the study of Science and Health. Although I was not in the least familiar with the English language, I entertained absolutely no doubt but that this book had to do with spiritual truth. From the abovementioned pamphlet I had gained confidence as never before in my life, and Science and Health was now to disclose to me the whole truth. I recognized that I could only demonstrate Christian Science by obeying and loving the truth, and that nothing is gained by criticism and disobedience. With these views I began the study of Science and Health.

After the first four weeks I had a wonderful result through the power of divine Love. A little orphan girl, one year old, was living with her mother's parents, who did all they could for her; but the thought prevailed that the child was not healthy to start with, and shortly after she was sent to the orphan-house, but as she became very ill they could not keep her there. And truly, people who saw the child wept, so wretched were her looks. I heard all these things, went to see the child, talked to her, told her that God's children need not be sick but should be happy, because God is good and kind. I stayed with her for about fifteen minutes, played with her, and told her, as well as her grandmother, only good and beautiful things about God, and when I left I felt that a change for the better had taken place. The child, who at first was lying listless in her little cot, tried to smile and began to move her little hands, trying to wave them as I left. Half a year has elapsed since, and the puny child has become a strong and healthy little girl. For the past three months she has been running about with the other children of the neighborhood, who formerly were not allowed to play with her for fear of contagion. I myself realized in a wonderful way the meaning of God's kingdom on earth through this experience.
