The healing work of Christian Science is not contingent...
Dubuque (Ia.) Telegraph-Herald
The healing work of Christian Science is not contingent upon the operation of what is ordinarily termed "mind force." It contains no elements of "mysticism," as one writer-claims; it has no connection with suggestion, but on the contrary is a manifestation of the intelligent activity of the one infinite Mind, good.
By a process of reasoning which is difficult to reconcile with established facts, it is supposed by the advocates of certain movements that a coalition of two systems, either of which used independently has been found inadequate and insufficient to overcome or destroy the ills of an individual, will produce a system which becomes more nearly adequate and sufficient.
Separate and distinct from all this is the scientifically Christian method employed in Christian Science, wherein it is recognized that there is but one Mind, but one intelligent Principle, but one power,—even the power of God,—and that this power is adequate and sufficient, that it is available to the needs of humanity at all times and under all circumstances; moreover, it is in exact accord with the teachings of Scripture, with the practical example furnished us by Christ Jesus, by the prophets and apostles, and conforms to the promises given to "them that believe." It is distinctly and emphatically spiritual in its operation, requiring no aid from matter, and recognizing that matter, being inert, non-intelligent, mindless, cannot be a medium through which Mind or God can be expressed. Scientific therapeutics admits of no halfway position, of no coalition of opposites, but insists upon the oneness, allness, and allsufficiency of God as the only healing power or Principle. It is the understanding of this Principle and its application to the overcoming of the woes of humanity which constitutes the difference between Christian Science and every other so-called healing method.
