Thirteen years ago I was healed from a very severe attack of rheumatic trouble, which had been contracted in the Civil War. For thirty years I tried materia medica; traveled in search of health to many places, but kept failing until finally I was compelled to go about on crutches. A friend advised me to try Christian Science. I did so, and was instantaneously healed. I drove home from visiting the practitioner, and had no further use for crutches, nor has the malady ever returned. At this time I was without money, hope, or God; but, thanks be to Christian Science, I have found the Christ—"the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (Science and Health, p. 583).

I see from the Sentinel how so many are helped financially, and I wish to give a few facts which may be of great help to some poor weary pilgrim, since I have already made mention of being out of money. I had one cow, which I sold to pay for tuition in Christian Science, and I feel it was money well spent. This was about twelve years ago. Now, I have just returned from a trip of twenty-four thousand miles to the Holy Land, through Rome, Egypt, and across Europe. While in Jerusalem I was thinking why it was that God told Solomon to build such a beautiful temple, garnished inside with gold and silver and precious stones; and yet that it was destroyed. I could not see a trace of the temple—not one stone left upon another. Then I saw, more clearly than I had ever done, the temple which I must build, pure inside and out, the temple made without hands, eternal in harmony. In that temple at Jerusalem was the ark of the covenant, and I saw plainly that the ark of the covenant which I must have in my temple was, as Jesus had said, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself," for love is the fulfilling of the law. That is the covenant which we have, and it is the one which is pointed out by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Some may ask, How can we love our neighbor as ourselves? Saying that we love our neighbors is not the fulfilment of this law; we must prove it by our works. For myself I can truthfully say that I have received in Christian Science ten thousandfold, and can see more and more that God is our only source of supply.
