THE LECTURES

Last (Friday) evening [April 23], at the Queen's Hall, Langham place, London, a very interesting lecture on Christian Science was given by Francis J. Fluno, M.D. He was introduced by Major Robert Standen, who said in part,—

This large and representative assembly is another proof, if additional proof were needed, of the deep-seated interest which is being taken the world over in the message which Christian Science is bringing to humanity, and of a determination on the part of the public to know more of this practical, demonstrable Christianity. It does not need much study of the New Testament to be convinced that the teachings of Christ Jesus were intended by him to be put into practice by his followers, and that in all ages to come Christians were to be known by their fruits, the truth of their faith vouched for by the signs following. We find in the Gospel records an account of the instructions which the great Teacher gave to his followers prior to sending them away to demonstrate the truth of what they had learned from him. His positive commands to them were few: they were to invoke the blessing of peace upon every house in which they were cordially welcomed; they were to heal the sick that they found in every city they visited; and, lastly, they were to point out to the beneficiaries of their ministrations that in the healing touch the kingdom of God had come nigh unto them, a realization of the ever-presence and all-protecting power of divine Love. We know that these seventy students returned with joy, telling their dear Teacher how successfully the knowledge of the Christ, Truth, which he had taught them had been put into practice, and how devils (evils) had been subject to them through his name.

In like manner the glad tidings of Christian Science is today bringing its message of peace into all the homes and hearts where it is hospitably welcomed; its success as a prophylactic and curative agency can be borne witness to by any one who has attended a Wednesday evening Christian Science testimony meeting, and, finally, it is teaching those whom it benefits, physically and morally, that the kingdom of heaven is indeed near them, that God's tender care is over all His children.—South Eastern Advocate.
