To gain a correct understanding of the teachings of...
Glenwood Springs (Col.) Post
To gain a correct understanding of the teachings of Christian Science one must start with the premise that God is perfect, good, and all-inclusive. A vast number of honest and intelligent seekers have been convinced by their own healing of the truth of this Science, and they know that, properly understood, the Christian Science textbook is a true, clear, courageous, logical, and spiritual interpretation of the Bible and an exposition of the Science of God and His law.
Every so-called natural science, whether it be mathematics, physics, or chemistry, has its own terminology and a vocabulary peculiar to itself. This is also true of Christian Science, which uses metaphysical terms to express spiritual truths, terms which are not easily understood by the ordinary man of the material world. In order to read intelligently and understand the Christian Science textbook, one must understand the metaphysical meaning of the terms "real" and "unreal." Only the spiritual is permanent, eternal, and unchanged, therefore the word "real" is used to indicate only that which is spiritual. According to this usage Spirit is real, for Spirit is permanent, eternal, and unchangeable; while matter, which is changeable and transitory, is unreal. Health and harmony are of Spirit, hence are real; while disease and discord are not of Spirit, hence they are unreal.
