I feel very grateful that I am able to bear my humble...
I feel very grateful that I am able to bear my humble testimony for what Christian Science has done for me. It is a joy to understand the truth which indeed makes us free, and which has already brought salvation to me, not only from sin but also from sickness. I can but feel grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us how to put Jesus' teachings into practice. In April, 1907, I was walking down Victoria street, Manchester, when my attention was drawn to the Christian Science Reading Room. I went in, and among the literature marked for free distribution were several copies of the Sentinel. The contents of this weekly paper seemed so full of love and gratitude to our heavenly Father for the good received through Christian Science that I decided to visit the church in Victoria park. There I was much impressed by the happy look and kind manner with which strangers were received, and I decided to go to the Reading Room and ask for a loan copy of the Christian Science text-book, that I might find out for myself and seek the teachings which gave this happiness. I studied the book prayerfully and soon realized the basis of this joy I was seeking, namely, the divine sonship of man and his likeness to God. This immediately became my ideal, and since then I have sought to bring it out in my daily life. With this new understanding I was enabled to discard the glasses I had worn for over twelve years. I have seen a distressing cough cured in my home in one treatment, also influenza and its accompanying discords healed in less than one week.
Beyond and above all this, I feel most deeply grateful for the spiritual uplifting which has come to me with this message of Christian Science, that God is Love, and that "divine Love always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
