Hamilton (Ont.) Spectator

In asserting that all diseases are of material origin, and therefore that the only way to heal them is by the use of material means, the critic entirely ignores the teaching and practice of Jesus, the greatest and most successful healer the world has ever known. Jesus used no material means for healing, and never taught his disciples to do so; nor did he advocate a study of the material body and of material remedies. He knew that man, made in God's own image, is a spiritual, not a material, being, and that his life depends not on matter, but on Spirit. He said: "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." His marvelous success proved the rightness of his method of healing, and it is the same method that is being practised and taught in Christian Science, as revealed to the world by Mrs. Eddy. The healing and regenerating work being done by Christian Science today is ample evidence of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's teachings, and the healing of scores of cases of organic diseases of the most pronounced type, many of which had been given up by regular physicians as hopeless, shows that the Christ-truth has lost none of its efficiency, and that it is as powerful to heal today, when properly understood, as it was nineteen hundred years ago. Moreover. Jesus' success in healing proves that he healed according to Principle, which he understood and taught to his followers; and the success of Christian Science in healing all kinds of disease, including those mentioned by the critic, proves that the same divine Principle underlies the practice of Christian Science today.
