It is now over four years since I first heard of Christian Science

It is now over four years since I first heard of Christian Science. While visiting my parents I was handed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which had been left there by an uncle who was a Christian Scientist. On opening the book at the chapter on Prayer, I read these words, "The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer" (p. 4). This appealed to me, and soon after I sent to the publishing house for a copy of this inspired book for myself. During our first time of reading it together my wife was healed of a seemingly hopeless condition. She had lost much in weight, but she gained greatly during the time we were reading the book through—about three weeks. Our little daughter was healed of throat and bronchial trouble, and I was relieved of stomach trouble and headache. At this time I was relieved of stomach trouble and head—ache. At this time I was a member of an orthodox church, being a member of the council and a trustee. When I told my pastor of our healing, he informed me that it was from the evil one; but I reasoned that Jesus, who came that he might "destroy the works of the devil," had healed the sick, and that he said a "corrupt tree" cannot bring forth "good fruit." The minister then asked if I really believed that God would reveal His truth to a woman, rather than to some Christian pastor or bishop, of whom there were so many. I answered that it was a woman who gave birth to Christ Jesus, and a woman who first beheld Jesus after his resurrection, and why should it be unreasonable that again a woman should be the one to bring to us the Comforter. I reminded him that the Scriptures tell us God is "no respecter of persons," and that Jesus once said, "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes;" that when he selected his disciples he chose them from the ranks of the common people and not from the priests and Pharisees. The pastor then accepted my resignation, saying, "I am sure you feel that you are right."

From that time I have never doubted that Christian Science is a revelation of the truth to this age. We have had a number of demonstrations of the truth over error in our own family, and have found that it is a quick and sure help, as we have had quite a few cases of instantaneous healing. I have been able to interest others in this truth, having sent for six copies of Science and Health for beginners in the past three years. Before coming into Christian Science the Bible had been to me a closed book, as I never had proven a promise that was given us, and had to accept the explanation given by several pastors, that they were not for us. Now I know that Christ Jesus came to save the whole world from sin and sickness, and I have proven by results that God is all-power and all-presence; therefore there is no room for anything unlike God, good.

I cannot express in words my thanks to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," but I am striving daily to be a true disciple, that I may be stronger in overcoming all manner of evil.—P. L. Bamberger, Van Wert, O.
