For twenty-five years I suffered with what the doctors...
For twenty-five years I suffered with what the doctors termed catarrhal disease of the stomach, taking medicine more regularly than I ate, for I could eat very little if at all. All the money that my husband could earn, outside of a livelihood for the family, was paid out for physicians and medicine, without my receiving any benefit until I tried Christian Science. A practitioner had given me only a few treatments when a marked improvement came, and I was relieved and healed. I am sure Christian Science is not only for sick people, but the spiritual uplifting is for one and all—a glad discovery.
I would also like to tell of the marvelous healing of my son. When a small boy his ankle was injured. An enlargement became chronic, and the ankle was alarmingly painful. The child was such a sufferer that the doctors decided it would be impossible to move him to the hospital, and three operations were performed at different times. The appearance of the limb was dreadful, and the foot became deformed after the operations. He was then removed to the hospital. On account of the intense fever a fourth operation was considered necessary, after which he walked on crutches for four years, never touching his foot to the floor and suffering much. The attending physician then ordered that we take our son to a specialist at Cincinnati for a fifth operation. At this time I heard of the works of Christian Science, and I took my son to a practitioner. His healing was very slow, but sure, and comforting the while. It was more than a year before he threw away his crutches, and eighteen months elapsed before he was free, but we had some beautiful demonstrations while the healing was taking place, the entire family of five members receiving physical benefits. We are residing on a farm, and when our neighbors came to our home to ask for medicine. I would point to the Bible and Science and Health, and tell them these were not only our medicine but our physician and pastor.
We are all grateful beyond words to express our thanks. I am sure I would not have been spared to my family had it not been for this help received from divine Love as explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. We all join in this expression of our gratitude.—Mary E. Black, Roanoke, Ind.
