At the Memorial Baptist church yesterday [July 19],...

Los Angeles (Cal.) Herald

At the Memorial Baptist church yesterday [July 19], Rev. C. C. Pierce, the pastor, preached on "The Gospel for the Age," taking for his text the words of Matthew, 4:33: "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom." He said in part,—

"Some of my friends are very much afraid of what Christian Science is doing in the world. The favorite charge is that it is 'neither scientific nor Christian.' Perhaps this is so, but it is winning people of all grades of thought and culture, simply because it enforces the neglected gospel of health. It believes that it is right to be well. It believes that God can heal. All I have to say is, that if Christian Science has something better than we people of the orthodox church have, we have to get it or see our friends go to join them. Tell the sick man how he can get well, and he will try the experiment, no matter how rank some may believe the heresy to be. Bring men a gospel that will enable them to live good, clean, natural lives, free from excitement, worry, and disappointment; give men and women sufficient time to spend with their families, and enough intelligence to make the best use of their time; teach mankind to get right in their hearts, to think right and be right, show them the effect of the spirit and the mind upon the body, make them familiar with the great laws of psychology, and inspire them to make the highest use of all the powers of body, mind, and soul, and what we call sickness and disease will speedily disappear from the earth, and forever."
