AMONG THE CHURCHES

GORGONA, CANAL ZONE, PANAMA.

In an article on "Religious Work in Canal Zone," the Canal Record, the official paper, says: "The Christian Science Church was organized on the Isthmus in January, 1906, and services are held in the Commission Chapel in Gorgona every Sunday morning at 8.15 o'clock."

COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO.

The Christian Scientists residing in this city commenced to hold services last September in a private house in the Park. Last spring the number had increased so that it became necessary to remove into a hall. On July 12 a Christian Science Society was organized, and steps are now being taken to open a Reading Room.—Correspondence.

BUZZARDS BAY, MASS.

Christian Science services have been started at this point, although it is little more than a railroad junction. Two Christian Science families had lived here (one during the summer months only) for many years, without knowing of each other's interest in Science, and it was not until the Communion season of this year that this fact was discovered. The writer, upon her return from Communion, proposed that the two families meet on Sunday morning for the purpose of reading the Lesson-Sermon together. It was soon found that others in near-by places were also interested, and each week the number increased, until after the fourth Sunday a hall was engaged and two weeks ago the first Wednesday testimonial meeting was held.

Divine Love has met our every need. Readers have been appointed, a piano and an accompanist provided, Hymnals and Quarterlies have been bought and paid for; and in thanksgiving for all these blessings we send greetings to the Field, and our gratitude to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science for showing us the way in which we may be about our Father's business.—Correspondence.

SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.

As superintendent of the Sunday School I am greatly interested in this part of the church work. In our teaching we follow carefully The Mother Church Manual By-law, and we have sent a letter to the parents of the pupils asking for their cooperation in encouraging the pupils to study the Lesson-Sermons. We have also called their attention to paragraphs in Science and Health, which answer many questions that are often put to the pupils in our Sunday School by those who are not interested in Christian Science. For instance, as to the scientific definition of God, page 140, lines 25 to 27; of Christ, page 583; of Jesus, page 589; of angeles, page 581; of baptism, page 581; and of heaven, page 587.

The sending of this letter to parents has awakened much interest, and better results are being realized from our teaching. We encourage the pupils to earn their own money for the collection on Sunday morning, and to make their offering with love. The teachers have formed the habit of meeting together each Sunday morning for a few moments of silent prayer just before the opening of the school that they may be prepared for their holy work, and in doing this they are helped to demonstrate promptness, which they feel to be very important. They send their hearty greetings to all Sunday School workers in Christian Science.—Correspondence.
