This being the gladdest season of all the year, it seems...

This being the gladdest season of all the year, it seems to be a particularly good and appropriate time for us to give voice to our gratitude for the benefits which have come to us through the understanding of the healing power of Christ, Truth, as revealed to us by Mrs. Eddy in her inspired book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." A particularly beautiful instance of instantaneous healing by the power of Truth was shown in the case of my little daughter, who was healed of a bitter antagonism to Science and of stomach trouble and fever which accompanied the manifestation of this feeling. During my absence from home for a few months she had been closely associated with orthodox church people, who were skeptical of Christian Science and rather ridiculed it, and she became imbued with the same spirit of criticism, so that when the first symptoms of disease appeared she refused to have Christian Science treatment. As her sufferings increased, however, she gladly yielded to my wish to call a practitioner. In fifteen minutes from the time the treatment was begun, the child was bathed in a healthful perspiration and her temperature was normal. But most gratifying of all was the complete disappearance of every trace of antagonism to Christian Science, and instead there was a grateful acknowledgment of the healing that had come to her through the power of Truth.

Another case of instantaneous healing was that of my husband, who awoke one morning with a severe headache, the nature of which was such that he seemed for the moment to lose consciousness. Overcome by fear, I was unable to meet the trouble myself, so I called a practitioner. In a few moments the patient had fallen into a quiet sleep, and I became conscious of a sweet sense of peace and a gradual liberation from that fear which had seemed to paralyze all my faculties. Instantly I knew that the error had been met and overcome, and the distressed state of consciousness gave place to one of great joy and gratitude that we should possess even a little knowledge of divine Principle, of Life, a knowledge which is always available for the relief of our ailments. In Science we learn that the supernatural becomes the natural as soon as the spiritual is understood. We therefore know that cases of instantaneous healing are but the outward sign of an application of the truth, and an uplifting of thought—our own and that of others—from the sordidness of earth into the higher, purer atmosphere of God, good.
