For some time it has been my desire to tell the readers...
For some time it has been my desire to tell the readers of the Sentinel the many benefits and blessings which I have received through the small understanding of the power of Truth that I have already gained from the study of Christian Science. To those outside of our faith it may seem a miracle when I say that I have been healed physically, mentally, and morally. Nearly two years ago I was suffering from a so-called acute incurable disease, namely, lung trouble. At least, the doctors said they could do nothing more for me, and medicine proved itself to be absolutely of no value.
When I got to this condition, death seemed to me to be only hope of relief. Then, like a message from God, Christian Science was brought to me. When it was first spoken of to me, I thought it could be of no value, as I was then, as I believed, wearing away my last moments on this earth; but my wife insisted that I should have a practitioner, and although I thought it of no avail, she, together with kind friends, had one called. The practitioner arrived at the noon hour and gave me my first treatment. In two hours' time I was able to leave the bed and go out for a short walk. In the evening of that memorable day (April 8, 1906), I went to Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, of Chicago, to hear a lecture on Christian Science. The following day was spent in studying the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and in the evening I went to my first testimonial meeting. The next day I took up my usual work, which consists of painting and decorating. That evening, on coming home from work, it seemed as if my strength was gone, so I had my second treatment (I have had no others), and I thank God I have not lost one hour's work since on account of ill health. At the same time I was healed of the desire for liquor, which I had used to great excess, also of the tobacco habit and the use of profane language.
I can truly say that Christian Science has made a new man of me, and for all these blessings I am thankful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, whose teaching has helped me into this kingdom of God on earth.
