For sixteen years I suffered from serious bowel trouble...
For sixteen years I suffered from serious bowel trouble, constant headache, and fatigue. The strictest attention to diet and daily use of powerful medicines failed to cure this trouble. One physician consoled me with the assurance that this condition was my habit, and implied that I should make the best of it. It is probable that to this day, eight years later, I should have been trying to follow his advice, had I not turned to Christian Science for help for another trouble, even more serious and painful, which I had borne for years. This condition, which had caused me terrible suffering, grew so alarmingly worse that a specialist declared nothing remained for me but a very serious operation, one of the most serious which a woman can undergo. The fear of this was so great that I turned eagerly to a friend's advice that I try Christian Science. She hunted up a practitioner, who came to see me the day following, which day I can never forget, for it brought me instant freedom. When I mentioned the bowel trouble, the practitioner gently advised me to discontinue the medicine which I had taken for many years, and said that God would heal me. I thought I would follow her advice for three days, which I did. To my surprise the most convincing proof came to me that her painful disease entirely healed, but the bowel trouble, which from its long duration seemed to be a part of me, left me just as quickly. I gladly gave up morphine and all medicine forever. We have found divine Love sufficient to solve very perplexing financial problems, which, however, were not met until we had learned not to hold in condemnation those persons who had seemed to injure us. It was at first difficult to separate error from personality, but when we did, the most wonderful release came from further anxiety. I am so grateful to dear Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings have given me back my health, and have made it possible for us to see the utter foolishness of sin in its many forms.
