'Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh"
'Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude for all that Christian Science has done and is doing in one small family circle, therefore I gladly acknowledge these supreme blessings, with the fervent desire that this little testimony to the power of Truth may indeed be "a cup of cold water" given in Christ's name to some one who may have become discouraged or who is wavering. Having been raised in a Christian family, I united with an orthodox church early in life and tried to live up to its teachings; consequently when Christian Science was first presented to me I gladly acknowledged it to be beautiful and wonderful, but I did not realize my own need. The soil was not ready for the seed of truth, but what anguish, mental and physical, I would have been spared, could I have then accepted this truth. But God's law is ever-operative, and the time came when I did realize, oh so fully, my need for something better, higher, purer than I possessed, for something that would give physical and spiritual relief. A supposedly organic disease of long standing, which at times caused almost unendurable suffering, seemed to be slowly sapping all my vitality.
After months of severe medical treatment, which brought temporary relief but not permanent cure, I became thoroughly disheartened. Divine Love was, however, guiding me, and in this mental and physical condition I was led to attend the Sunday service in a Christian Science church. Words cannot express the comfort, peace, and transforming influence which this beautiful service brought to my consciousness. I went away realizing as never before the meaning of our Master's words, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Ever since that Sunday I have given Christian Science earnest and prayerful study. I can never tell all the blessings which this study is bringing into my life; suffice it to say that I was perfectly and permanently healed, in less than a week, of the disease which had held me in bondage for many years, simply by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. All those nearest and dearest to me have also had beautiful demonstrations of the power of divine Love to overcome sin and disease. For this alone I owe endless homage and gratitude, and yet it is the least of the blessings.
Far greater than the physical benefits received are the spiritual blessings we are constantly enjoying. For the true and higher understanding of God, omnipotent, ever-present good, for the "sense of Life that knows no death" (Christian Science Hymnal), and for the understanding of the perfect, spiritual man—God's own image—which the study of Christian Science unfolds to us, I can only bow before God in humble worship and devotion. I look up to Mrs. Eddy with sincere gratitude, reverence, and love, and am earnestly striving to be a loyal Christian Scientist. "The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters," and to my troubled and disturbed consciousness came the divine command," "Let there be light: and there was light."—Mrs. Rose C. Flenner, Indianapolis, Ind.
