[Written for the Sentinel.]

FRUITAGE

I sent a loving thought
To one in sorest need.
It sank into his heart—
A strong and fruitful seed—
And blossomed forth full oft
In many a loving deed.

I spoke a tender word
To one in deep distress.
It healed him of his pain
And, as his fear grew less,
Full many a helpful word went forth,
His fellow-men to bless.

I did a kindly deed,
And went upon my way;
It healed a broken heart,
And from that self-same day
Another scatters kindly acts
Along life's brightening way.
