Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have...
Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have been healed of several different ailments, some chronic, and two supposed to be hereditary. In this testimony I will speak particularly of my first proof of the healing power of Christian Science. From early childhood I had been subject to severe headaches, each attack lasting from three days to two weeks, affecting my eyes to such an extent as to interfere seriously with my university work. A few years ago I began to read the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and from that day to the present time I have had no return of the headaches, and have been able to use my eyes continuously without the slightest discomfort. To me this first healing is the strongest evidence that the interpretation of the Scriptures as given by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science text-book, is the true interpretation.
I had been an active member of an orthodox church, and knew so little of Christian Science that I believed it to be a synonym for spiritualism. I had no one to influence me in favor of Christian Science, and did not know that any one had ever claimed to have been healed through reading Science and Health, yet I was healed, not only of headaches, but of extreme nervousness and stomach trouble. The other healings came gradually, as the result of spiritual growth, but not without treatment and faithful teaching, with precept upon precept. I find I am still much "like a feather bed [which], needs often to be stirred, sometimes roughly, and given a variety of turns, else it grows hard and uncomfortable whereon to repose" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 128).
I did not come to Christian Science for the physical healing; it was mental unrest—a longing to know God—which led me to investigate, and to-day I am most grateful for the purification of thought, and for my increasing appreciation of the beauty of holiness.
