Before I give the following testimony I want to express...
Before I give the following testimony I want to express a few words of appreciation and thankfulness to our revered Leader for her wonderful gift to a sin-sick, heart-sick, body-sick world. One of the greatest blessings to me accruing from the study of Christian Science, has been a sense of peace and an absence of fear. For the past year and a half it has been my privilege to serve the Cause in the capacity of assistant publication committee, and I have looked in awed wonder at the sweet humility and forbearing patience of our peerless Leader during these months of fiery trial.
One afternoon I put my hands up to my closed eyes, when to my surprise a pain shot through the left eye and I noticed a little hard knot under the eyelid. I tried to realize the truth of our Leader's teaching in "Unity of Good," on the non-intelligence of matter. the spirituality of sight, and the scientific fact that we look mentally through our eyes, not with them. In the evening, as is my daily habit, I sat embroidering some fine Dresden work, and felt no inconvenience in seeing at all. When I went upstairs I examined my eyelid. Without a thought of fear I discovered an abnormal growth about the size of a pea. As my usual custom is, I lay in bed reading for a half hour. Three times during the night I awoke and had to bathe this eye to open it, but without any sense of pain, falling asleep immediately. In the morning upon my appearance at breakfast exclamations were rife at the swelled appearance of my eye; it was open and that was about all. I said, "Your sympathy is one day late. After breakfast I will tell you about this." I lifted the lid and showed my mother where the growth had been. Even upon close examination the eye showed not the slightest inflammation. I read, sewed, and wrote all day without inconvenience of any kind. The next morning the eye was clear and smooth inside and out.—Kate McCord Smith, Pensacola, Fla.
