About eighteen years ago Christian Science was first...
About eighteen years ago Christian Science was first presented to me by a sister, who had been healed by it after the doctors had given her up. I did not question by what means it healed, and knew absolutely nothing about it. I was, however, quite ready and willing to give it a trial. I had tried everything else, and why not Christian Science? I had suffered intensely with severe rheumatic trouble, and at this time it seemed to me that I was suffering more than ever before; I could not even raise my arms from the bed. My sister telegraphed for a practitioner, who came the next afternoon and gave me treatment that evening. I slept soundly all night, and got up the next morning and dressed myself. A little swelling was all that remained to remind me of my former suffering. I immediately purchased a copy of Science and Health and tried to read it, but like many others I laid it aside, because it seemed hard to understand, and I thought it would be much easier to go to a practitioner when in need than to study for myself. A year later I again had this ailment, and of course I hurried to the practitioner; but I was not benefited physically until I studied and learned for myself how I was healed. I had to work out my own problem, and for this I am more than thankful, for with my better understanding I was enabled to overcome a supposedly inherited catarrhal trouble. I could not remember the time that I did not suffer from its worst form, although I had tried everything of which I had ever heard. Only those who have had this loathsome disease can appreciate what it means to be free from it. I could not tell the many blessings we have had in our family from Christian Science, but I am more and more grateful each day to Mrs. Eddy for giving us Science and Health.—Mrs. Evlyn G. Myers, Mena, Ark.
