Fifteen years ago Christian Science came to me when I ...

Fifteen years ago Christian Science came to me when I seemed to be filled with despair. The children were all sick, and one had been given up the day before as hopelessly ill. I had never heard of Christian Science, but a friend, knowing our desperate need of help, brought a Scientist to the home. The flood of love and renewed hope that was brought to us in that first visit has never left, although many hard things have had to be met since. The children were soon well; also a case of hip disease was healed. Three physicians had said the child could not live, and that if she did she could never walk; but through Christian Science she was able to walk in five months, and has been a healthy girl ever since. For these and many other proofs of healing I was very grateful to Christian Science, and to those who so lovingly helped me; but for a long time I was at war with conditions that surrounded me, and wondered why they seemed to get worse instead of better, until one day these words from Science and Health (p. 571) came to me with great force: "Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you." I saw more plainly than ever before that the work was with myself; so many thoughts were hidden away in my own consciousness that I had blamed others for; hard thoughts had been given, where loving ones should have been held. These words from our text-book showed me that first and last the work in Christian Science is within ourselves.

My heart is filled with gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for so patiently and lovingly showing us the way to apply this saving truth.
