Twelve years ago I passed through what seemed the darkest period of my life. For fifteen years previous to that time I had been a weak and sickly woman, under the doctor's care much of the time. I was also struggling with the greatest of all fears, that of hereditary lung trouble, and was a great sufferer at the time from what the family doctor called nervous and heart trouble. But the gloom did not seem so impenetrable until the family physician said: "You are going just as the others of the family have gone." My mother and three sisters had died with lung trouble, and this seemed to shut out every ray of light. I seemed to be indeed without "hope, and without God in the world." It has been said that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and so it was in my case. In this, my extremity, Christian Science was presented to me. As the drowning man grasps at a straw, I was ready to try it, and after all those years of fear, suffering, and expense, I was completely healed in a few weeks' treatment. There has never been the slightest return of the old trouble. Besides the other troubles, my eyes had failed me, until I could do nothing without glasses. After taking a few treatments in Science my practitioner requested me to remove my glasses. I protested at first, not knowing that Christian Science applied to such cases, but finally complied with his request, and imagine my glad surprise to find that I had no further use for them, and have not to this day. I trust that these statements of fact from my own experience may serve to lighten the darkened life of some suffering brother.
