EVIL UNKNOWN TO GOOD
The belief that God, good, knows evil is due to the belief that evil is real. To correct this belief it is necessary to replace it by the understanding that evil is unreal. If we believe that God knows evil we must also believe that He created it and that it has a real existence, or else that there is another power, equal to or superior to God, which has created it. If God created evil, He must have had some good purpose in view, and we are not justified in opposing it. If there is another power opposed to God, that has created evil, then we must admit that God is not supreme or else He would not have permitted another power to usurp his prerogative as creator.
Through the teaching of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, we are brought out of these contradictory beliefs and learn that "the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else." We are taught that He is the only creator, the only power, the only presence, and that all He created is good. By holding steadfastly to these teachings, and by patterning our lives to accord with them, we are enabled, step by step, to cast out the belief in the reality or necessity of evil, and to know that it is nothing but a false concept, a belief in the suppositional absence of God, good, which is destroyed in our consciousness in proportion to our spirituality.
