Adrift on the turbulent waves of mortality, a weary...
Adrift on the turbulent waves of mortality, a weary wanderer in search of health and happiness, four short years ago I found Christian Science. I began to read Science and Health simply to "pass time," and continued the perusal because I liked the original style of the book. I began to notice that when I had read a short while my headaches and backaches left. I was healed within an hour sometimes, whereas in the former days I would take medicines and remain sick with the same ailments for days. At the birth of my only child I had Christian Science treatment, and on the third day I rose and dressed, perfectly well! I had no practitioner for two years, just studied Science and Health with the help of my mother, who was new in Science. We both read our Bible and Science and Health and got well. I banished a throat trouble instantly from which I had suffered all through my childhood. People said my baby would be sure to have it, but she has been completely healed, with no other aid than Christian Science. A severe ailment of infancy was also met for her in a very short time. One day, while alone, I was seized with a violent attack of bowel trouble. I tried to read, but everything grew dark. I was terribly faint, when some came in and asked me to send for a doctor. I said Christian Science was my only reliance, that if God could not save me nothing could. I kept on declaring the truth, and presently I was able to read. In one hour I took a nap, and awoke—well !
At another time my hand was severely scalded, but was quickly healed by the understanding of the allness of God,—no pain, no blistering, no discoloration remained. Then one morning my father came and showed me a very badly inflamed finger, which he thought was developing into a felon. He set type all day, and in the evening, when I looked at his hand the finger was well. He had only one treatment. My baby is three years old, and has never had any other help than Christian Science. She had a bad fall, but called immediately for aid and began to help herself. No bruise remained, and after one hour all pain left. Hate, envy, malice, and jealousy, which had made me very wretched, have been destroyed for me since I learned of Christian Science.
To loved and loving Mrs. Eddy gratitude is bound less, for her years of sacrifice and her constant prayers. Through her teaching the Scriptures are illumined. God bless her as she leads the mighty throng to Christ by giving them a living example of following Christ closely enough to obey his every command, even to "preach the gospel" and "heal the sick." When I read, "They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever," I think of the thousands that Mrs. Eddy has led to the Father, who healeth all our diseases and forgiveth all our iniquities!
