While reading that precious volume, our Leader's "Miscellaneous Writings,"...
While reading that precious volume, our Leader's "Miscellaneous Writings," I came across these words on page 271: "Students of Christian Science ... should take our magazine, work for it, write for it, and read it." The first and last of these three requirements I have willingly complied with since gaining a glimpse of the truth, but the third essential, that of writing for our periodicals, I have neglected to fulfil until the present time, not because I have nothing for which to express thanks, but rather because I have so much to be grateful for, through the study of Christian Science, that it seems well-nigh impossible to put it into words.
The Bible says, "Give thanks unto the Lord," and so in the spirit of humility I want to write something of my thankfulness that Christian Science has come into my life. It came to me when I was only twelve years old, through the healing of my mother, and since then it has been our only remedy in sickness, our only source of strength in time of trial. Time and time again the actuality of Truth has been proven to me in small ways, and I am beginning to realize what a debt of gratitude we owe to her through whom has been revealed to this age the practicality of Christ's teaching, showing us how all men may demonstrate the power of God, good, in the overcoming of evil.
After the last revised version of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was given to us by our Leader, it came to me forcibly that our text-book might be likened to the light that "shineth more and more unto the perfect day." How many darkened lives has it illumined through the revelation contained within its pages! How many crooked ways have been made straight, how many sorrowing hearts made glad! With each revised version has come a clearer, fuller, brighter shining of the light of Truth, to make plain our paths and guide us "onward in the march toward righteousness, peace, and purity" (Science and Health, p. 323). I am truly thankful to God for giving to us, through our beloved Leader, so glorious a revelation. That my eyes my be open to receive and profit by the light, is my daily prayer.
