It is with the deepest gratitude that I add my testimony...
It is with the deepest gratitude that I add my testimony of the blessings that have come to me and to my family through Christian Science. That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" has certainly been proven in my case. For fifteen years I was a sufferer from a complication diseases. I had treatment during that time from seven of the best physicians obtainable. Each of them made a different diagnosis and each gave me a different course of treatment. Finally I was told that an operation was my only hope, and soon after this time I agreed to have it. My suffering was intense and the physicians then claimed that my principal trouble came from the kidneys. The operation was performed but the diagnosis was found to have been wrong. A second incision was made at once and a morbid growth was found. The surgeon could not remove it, so the wound was closed up. My family were then told that I could live only a very short time. I was soon taken from the hospital to my home, and from that time until I found Christian Science, a period of one year, my suffering became even more intense. The only relief of any kind that I could get was from hypodermic injections of morphine, and on account of this fact I became a confirmed user of the drug. At this point my attention was called to Christian Science and after many doubts and misgivings I decided to try it. A practitioner was called and I received help at once. The second evening after commencing treatment I was able to leave my bed, dress myself, and go to the Wednesday evening meeting at the Christian Science church, a distance of about two miles, which necessitated a walk of several blocks and a change of street cars. Treatments were continued for eight days, at the end of which time all suffering was destroyed and the healing was perfect. The desire for morphine was also overcome.
It is now fifteen months since my healing and I am in better health than ever before in my life. During this time my family as well as myself have had many proofs of the ever-present power of divine Love. We have all been helped, physically, financially, and spiritually. My greatest desire is to grow in the understanding of this grand truth and to express daily my gratitude to God and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her loving guidance and watchful care, through which I, with hosts of others, have been led safely "through the valley of the shadow of death" and "into the glorious liberty of the children of God."
Mrs. Josie Shimer, Indianapolis, Ind.
