About the year 1889 I was examined for life insurance by one of the leading physicians of San Jose, Cal., and was promptly rejected. I found out later that the doctor in his report to the company had stated that I had serious heart trouble and could not possibly live three years. From that time I grew steadily worse, and at one time did come very near passing out. I was at the time smoking a large number of cigars each day, and this habit increased the difficulty, which, added to other ailments, made life almost a burden.
I was in this condition when Christian Science found me. During the fall of 1891 my wife studied Christian Science, and received so much benefit that I took up the study and began to improve; so much so, that in about one year I was again examined for life insurance and passed for a limited amount. By this time we were greatly interested in Christian Science, the writings of Mrs. Eddy and the Bible being our daily companions.
After about ten years of continued study I was again induced to apply for insurance in the same company that at first rejected me, and passed a good examination. To-day, after nearly fourteen years have passed and not a drop of medicine has entered our home, I find myself free from the tobacco habit, the heart trouble a thing of the past, insomnia and other numerous troubles gone. I feel very grateful for all that Science has done and is doing for myself and family.—F. C. Ensign, Oakland, Cal.
