For nine months I had been ill and was to undergo an operation. This was eighteen years ago. The doctor said I had three distinct diseases, but for fear of alarming me would not name them to me. The day set for the operation my doctor was prostrated, and I thought I would die if operated upon. In the mean time my husband became alarmed and wrote to my brother in Chicago of my condition. He replied at once that I should come to Chicago, even if I had to be brought on a bed, and that I could be healed by Christian Science. The doctor had told my husband that I would not be able to walk for two years or longer, but hope sprang up within me, and as soon as I could be gotten ready I started for Chicago. The next day I was told to get ready to go to a practitioner. I had worn glasses for six years, but they were laid aside after the first treatment. My truss was laid away after the third treatment, then my heart leaped for joy, and my long-unused voice burst forth in such singing as brought tears to all eyes. My healing was complete in four treatments, but I could not believe it would last, and insisted upon going longer. One day I found that I had walked over two miles. Since my healing I have been enabled to make demonstrations of the power of Truth for myself and others.
My heart goes out with gratitude and love to our dear Leader for her untiring efforts in behalf of suffering humanity. I could not live without this blessed truth. The Lesson-Sermons are strong and helpful. I pray daily to be able to reflect more love and to rise above the errors of mortal sense. May God's choicest blessings rest upon dear Mrs. Eddy.—Jennie M. Van Dusen, Chattanooga, Tenn.
To recount the many blessings that have come to me through Christian Science would be like numbering the sands of the sea, and the following statement is made with a heart full of love for Christian Science, in that it has delivered me from suffering and hopelessness and from having "no God." From childhood ill health in some measure seemed to be my portion. With the passing of the years physical ills accumulated, until about ten years ago, when life seemed well-nigh unbearable. At that time I was more discouraged than ever before, having spent five months in a sanitarium, at a large expenditure of money, and being assured that my days on earth were numbered unless I submitted to an operation. This I refused to do, and left the sanitarium completely broken in spirit, helpless and hopeless. Added to the above distressful condition, was a chronic disease of the stomach (a specialist, under whose care I remained for more than a year, saying I was incurable), a severe kidney trouble, and minor ills seemingly numberless. During the greater part of fifteen years I was under medical treatment, but grew gradually worse.
