From childhood the thought of lung trouble was held over...
From childhood the thought of lung trouble was held over me, it having been prevalent in my family and my earliest remembrance being of colds, coughts, etc. As I grew older, the trouble increased until the doctors decided that my condition was hopeless. The days dragged wearily away, and I often longed for death to relieve me. Instead, however, there came a new trouble to meet,—an operation was proposed. I was taken to a hospital, where I remained a month with the hope of regaining strength to go through with the operation, and during that time I was examined by four surgeons. Finally the hour came, and the result was one of the most severe operations known. In two months I was able to be moved, but two years passed before I could stand erect or do more than walk about my room.
After suffering for five years, I heard of and accepted Christian Science treatment, but did not respond readily—there seemed to be so much to meet. The time came, however, when all fear was gone, and I knew I was healed of all my diseases; that divine Love had met all my needs, and that I was "every whit whole,"—even laying off glasses I had worn for a serious trouble. With this healing I received loving encouragement and an understanding of the truth, so that I can not only help myself to keep perfectly well, but can tell others the way of the Christ-truth, which makes us reflect divine Love.
I spent a great part of my life under medical treatment, and was left in a worse condition than at the start. I was healed in 1896 by Christian Science. I will add that a relative of mine, who had made all arrangements to be operated upon for an abnormal growth, accompanied me to the practitioner's on my second interview with her, and while listening to her explanation of Christian Science, was healed instantaneously, and thus saved from the operating table.—Mary E. King, Ithaca, N. Y.
