Ten years ago I had a very bad cough, with expectoration, which continued, and in 1897 I had a hemorrhage from the lungs. My family physician then ordered me to the southern mountains and I spent five winters in Asheville, N. C., with medical attention nearly all that time. About three years ago Christian Science was brought to my attention and I was asked to read some of its literature. As it seemed very reasonable, I soon became deeply interested and began to take treatment. After about three months I was so much better that my practitioner thought it well for me to do the work myself for a time; and except for three or four shot periods I have not had help from any one since. The cost of my treatment in Christian Science, which cured me, was about one-fiftieth of what I had previously spent in search of health through climate and medical treatment.
My present health is good; I do not stop for weather; I attend to my business, and often work in much dust (which my doctors said I would never be able to do again, without the greatest risk to my health), but I have seldom had even discomfort from it. Now I am not only well, but I know that "the divine Mind, which forms the bud and blossom, will care for the human body, even as it clothes the lily" (Science and Health, p. 62).
I am even more thankful for the spiritual uplifting and the knowledge of God and His creation, than for the physical healing; but these are inseparable, for as Jesus said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent."
