Letters to our Leader

New York, December 6, 1905.

Reverend Mary Baker G. Eddy, Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—May I add my quota of love and gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me? Three years ago I was healed by this truth of an hereditary disease, which the doctors had pronounced incurable. I am indeed grateful for this, but most of all I want to tell you how this truth is taking root in Sweden. Two years ago last May, I made a trip to Stockholm, and while being entertained at a luncheon one day, many questions were asked about America. In the course of conversation, a sweet-faced little gentlewoman said, "Can you tell me anything about the new American religion they call Christian Science?" "Yes, I can," I replied, "for I am a Christian Scientist." I then told her of my own miraculous cure, and explained briefly some of the teachings of Christian Science. She was simply hungering to know more, but as I noticed that the other guests listened out of courtesy rather than interest, I said to her, "Come to the hotel with me after the luncheon and I will give you some of our literature and talk further with you on the subject."
