An Exact Science
MOST of those who object to Christian Science do so upon the ground that its teachings are at variance with longaccepted doctrines and methods, and because of this variance they cannot accept it, but in urging this objection they ignore the fact that the old methods which have been in operation for so many years have proved inadequate for the salvation of humanity from sin or sickness. No doubt similar objections have been raised to every discovery in the world's history; but time-worn theories have always given place to demonstrable facts, and thus progress has been constant.
Others allege that Christian Science is narrow, and they do not accept it because they cannot combine with it the beliefs and theories which they hold. They take this position because they do not appreciate the fact that Christian Science is an exact science and its rules are as inflexible as the rules of mathematics. What would be thought of a mathematician who insisted that he could find the product of two times three by subtracting two from three, or by adding these two figures?
If Science and Health presented nothing beyond what has been written and taught for ages, it would be of no more value than other books. It is because this book presents the demonstrable rule of Christian living and Christian healing practiced by our Master, that it is healing the sick and reforming the sinful. Our Master said, "By their fruits ye shall know them," and it is because of these "fruits" that Christian Science is taking its place in the world, and its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy, is beloved by an everincreasing number who, through her ministry, have been rescued from sin, sickness, and misery of every name and nature.
