It is now five years since Christian Science came to our home, bringing health where disease had been; assurance, where fear had reigned supreme; faith, where doubt and ignorance had held control. Gratitude for these proofs of a demonstrable, practical religion, has often impelled me to write to the Sentinel, hoping to help some one else. One day our daughter, eight years old, was grinding meat through a small chopper attached to a table. As she was thus engaged, she turned the crank while her finger was still in position to be caught by the cog. Simultaneously with her first cry of pain, in which she called out to me to turn the crank back, I turned the handle, thus liberating her finger. She had been taught to declare the truth to every form of error, and now, refusing to look at the extent of the injury, and knowing that she would understand the reason why, I reminded her that "Accidents are unknown to God" (Science and Health, p. 424), and that she could not be separated from Him. She responded by saying, "God promises to give His angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways." She added, "I know that angels are God's thoughts, and they are keeping me now" (Science and Health, p. 581). After denying the reality of the error, with a beaming face she slipped from my lap and returned to the grinding. At the same time her sister, a year and a half younger, was in the next room declaring the truth. Verily, "Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes," My heart went out in a flood of thankfulness to God for His blessed truth,—so practical that children can apply it,—and then to Mrs. Eddy for her sublime courage, her patience and love for humanity, her unremitting toil to keep this truth pure and to give it to the hungry and thirsty in the world.
Mrs. H. T. Kyle, South McAlester, Ind. Ter.
