It has been twenty years since I first heard of Christian Science
It has been twenty years since I first heard of Christian Science. I remember the impression which I received upon first hearing it mentioned. At that time I was quite young, and although I had always attended church and Sunday School regularly, I found myself constantly under condemnation for not being able to accept what I heard preached. I desired something higher and purer than I had known, but how to attain to it I knew not. A few years later, while visiting with a friend, I was asked to read the chapter on Prayer, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." A beautiful sense of peace and confidence seemed to pervade my consciousness, and I knew this was the truth. Shortly afterward I seemed to be in need of physical healing, and sought it in Christian Science. It was quite generally thought that I had consumption. I would not, however, admit my condition to my friends, yet I knew there was little help for me in a material way. After a few treatments I felt entirely changed, and have never had any return of the symptoms then expressed.
I have had many seeming obstacles to overcome and have failed at times to meet my responsibilities, hence many deep experiences and much suffering has resulted; but "Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory," I am determined to know the truth which makes free, not only from physical suffering but from the snares of sin as well.
Mrs. Annie M. Hersey, Wolfboro, N. H.
