The Consistent Christian

The following rather pointed arraignment of "the great majority of nominal Christians" copied from a recent issue of The Universalist Leader, should have the effect of stimulating every Christian, "nominal" or otherwise, to a searching self-examination which will disclose his true status as a follower of Christ Jesus.

The Leader says editorially: —

"Is there that in the average of Christian discipleship today that persuades the world to assume its ethical superiority ? Do we infer or assume instantly when we hear that Mr. Blank is a Christian that therefore he is all right, and is to be trusted, above other men? Is the business of the Christian doctor, lawyer, merchant, or mechanic conducted on a higher plane than that of his non-Christian neighbor? If we read two advertisements in the morning paper about two 'sales,' in two big stores, do we assume at once that the one printed by Mr. Blank, of Dr. Simeon's church, is more accurate and nearer the exact fact than the one printed by his competitor, who never goes to church? If we are dealing with men does the fact that one is a Christian or is not a Christian settle the matter of whether he is more or less reliable?
