An Explanation

Boston Herald

Since so much has been said in the public press with reference to a recent By-law of the Christian Science Church, restraining its members from interfering with Mrs. Eddy's daily drives on the streets of Concord, it seems but just to her to publish the whole truth regarding its prompting.

The Church was forced to make the By-law in order to deal with members for breaking the Golden Rule. A certain member of the Church went to the extent of meeting Mrs. Eddy every quarter of an hour during her drive, even after she, and also the Rev. Irving C. Tomlinson. First Reader of the Concord church, had kindly requested said member not so to treat their pastor emeritus.

The By-law does not apply to any reasonable conduct, but to the practice of following her and "daily and continuously haunting" her. Evidently Mrs. Eddy's purpose is to have the hour of her drive alone, and the members of her church believe that she is entitled to this privilege, and they gladly grant her the protection which the By-law affords.
