One of the most comfort-bearing of the many comforting...

One of the most comfort-bearing of the many comforting messages to be found in Science and Health is, that "Divine Love always has met, and always will meet, every human need" (p. 494). I would like to tell how divine Love met the need of a tiny babe, nine weeks old.

The parents knew something of Christian Science, as they had, only a year before, flown to it in direst extremity when their little son was dying in a hospital. Now, when this little babe was taken with violent sickness and diarrhoea that all the doctor's skill had failed to check, and when the child was so reduced that the only verdict was "no hope," "she must die," they again came to Christian Science for help.

A friend of mine and her daughter took the case, and there was some immediate improvement, but as they had to leave England, they begged me to take charge of the child, so we went together on an introductory visit to the house. There we found that the child had relapsed and was apparently alarmingly ill. Before the fire sat a poor, despairing mother, the tears running down her face, with a baby almost in the last stage of emaciation lying in her lap. The eyeballs were turned, and the little jaw had fallen so that the mouth was wide open, and it had ceased to be able to swallow even a few drops of liquid.
