A Way to Begin

When I was healed in Christian Science, the truth of it, the blessings that it brings, and the reformation it produces, appealed to me so strongly that I desired more than anything else to become a good Scientist and an earnest worker, and how to begin aright was the question that confronted me. The immensity of the work undertaken, the consecration of thought demanded, and the difficulties to be overcome, overpowered me so that I could see no definite line of procedure.

When I caught the first glimpse of my ability to reflect the divine Mind, an outline of my work came to me. I saw that I must subdue the erratic and untrained human mind, and by right thinking, bring "into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

Should a thought of criticism of another's words or acts suggest itself to me, I must replace it by one of commendation for the good which is manifested in some way by every one of God's children, and destroy the thought of pride or hypocrisy by one of humility, knowing that I, of myself, can do nothing. I must overcome the thought of egotism or self-assertion by realizing that there is but one Mind; and that every good thought is a messenger from God.
