About four years ago, the light of Christian Science was shed upon my consciousness. From my present standpoint,—in its glorious light,—I look back and marvel how I lived through all the heartaches, sorrow, and sickness, which I had endured for years. For sixteen years I was a great sufferer from so-called female weaknesses. I was a great never free from backache and other pains. For weeks and months at a time, I did not leave the house, and most of the time I spent upon my couch. Everything tired me. I can hardly conceive of one as having less strength than I appeared to have. Physicians had done all in their power for me, and still I was no better; I only turned to Christian Science because there seemed nothing else to do. I knew nothing of it, and had no faith in it, but in my case, as in thousands of others, man's extremity was God's opportunity.
The practitioner to whom I applied was a sweet woman, and to my question whether I could be helped, she replied, "Yes, God heals all things." I asked for treatment, and on that same day all pain ceased. I took four more treatments, not understanding how I was healed, and fearing to let go of my practitioner before I could realize the blessed truth that I was well. Then I started out to prove it and walked a mile, besides doing some shopping, and returned home as fresh as when I started out.
The Bible had been a closed book to me all my life, but I purchased one that day, and the next four months my time was given entirely to its study in connection with our dear text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Through the understanding derived from this study, I have overcome many things for which I have never been treated. I have been enabled to leave off glasses, which I had worn for fifteen years, and to use my eyes continually for all kinds of work. The physical healing was to me a blessed thing, but the most precious lesson which I have learned in Christian Science, is how to love my enemies. In that line I think I have made my most wonderful demonstrations. I have been able to help others in the destruction of many forms of error, among which are tuberculosis, gastritis, cancer-tumor, nervous prostration, bronchitis, and many simple forms of disease.
