Obedience and Disobedience
Our environments are varied, and we have to meet some phase of material sense daily. Mrs. Eddy says, "Obeying the divine Principle which you profess to understand and love, demonstrates Truth. Never absent from your post, never off guard, never ill-humored, never unready to work for God, — is obedience" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 117).
To be obedient to this demand, requires absolute consecration to Christ's command, "Watch and pray." We are tempted every moment if we are "off guard" to step aside from the path of duty which divine Love outlines for us, and though our deviation be ever so slight, we must go back and take our steps over again as the result of disobedience. However, with such a Principle to guide, and such a sure foundation as Christian Science, we should never be discouraged, but rather be more courageous and vigilant in our efforts to obey the loving will of the Father who blesses all our efforts.
Often, in not understanding the demands of Love, we find ourselves questioning the Divine guidance, not knowing that because we are rebellious we need these very conditions to purify us. We all must learn to say with Paul, that we glory in tribulation, and to know that it unfolds in our own natures, patience. Then through the realization of the statements of truth comes the experience which brings the love that melts away the shadows of sense, then we rise in thought above and beyond the things called material, and behold the real and true about us.
