While never an invalid, I, too, have felt the healing power...
While never an invalid, I, too, have felt the healing power of Truth. For years I suffered from sick headache in a severe form, and Christian Science healed me, without treatment, by giving me a higher, better understanding of the laws of God. For this release from pain I am truly thankful, but it is for the spiritual awakening whereby I have been enabled to discern the true meaning of the Scriptures, that I wish to express something of my love and gratitude, not only for the Cause of Christian Science, but for its Founder and Discoverer as well,—our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I have heard many testify that until thus awakened, the Bible was to them a sealed book. Just what it was and is to me may be best shown by the following incident.
Several years ago my husband and I were active members of a little social club that met once a week, and, as I remember, it took us just six days to prepare for a meeting of this club; and as I remember also, it was not all pleasure. The time came when we said in our hearts, "This, too, is vanity." But still seeking pleasure on a material basis, we formed a little whist party and called it Blake's Bible Class. At the time, I thought this was smart, but have since had the grace to be ashamed of it; and yet it serves a purpose in showing the difference between the old life and the new, for in writing to one of our friends who had left the city, I told him of our acceptance of Christian Science as the truth, in these words, "Blake's Bible Class has become a reality, and in it we find our first and greatest pleasure, for Christian Science gives understanding instead of blind belief." For six years now, and more, I have been a student of the Bible, and have found both pleasure and profit in it.
Elijah healed the sick and raised the dead nine hundred years before the coming of Jesus, thus proving that the Christ has neither beginning of years, nor end of days. Nineteen hundred years have passed since the birth of our Master, and in obedience to his command, Christian Science is again manifesting the majesty and might of God, in healing the sick, the sensual, the sinner. Then, in the words of Paul, "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?" "For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off." The promise of what? The descent of the Holy Ghost, the spiritual understanding that enabled Elijah to say to the poor widow, "Thy son liveth." "There is no death" (Science and Health, p. 428).
