Whenever we receive a new number of our Christian Science Herold,...
Whenever we receive a new number of our Christian Science Herold, the thought comes to me to do my duty to God and relate my experience in Christian Science, that others may read it and be led to join this Christian army where all evil is being destroyed. We read in the Scriptures that God made all that was made, and it was good. The right understanding of this destroys all evil.
Five years ago, my husband was much troubled with rheumatism. He had tried everything but without avail. Then one Wednesday evening he went to the Christian Science Church, and after he had attended the third meeting, the rheumatism was gone. When I saw that, I went with him, but when the people began to mock me, I stayed away. This, however, had no effect upon my husband, except to make him stronger, and he attended the meetings as often as he possibly could. It disturbed me, for he had never gone to any church, and I then thought, What do I care for the world? I shall also try to please God,—yet I only did what pleases the world.
Then all my ailments, which had almost disappeared while I attended the Christian Science service, returned. I must have help, and my husband gave me freedom to choose, so I chose a physician and medicine. The doctor came, but could not ascertain what ailed me. I grew no better and went to another physician, but instead of getting better, I grew constantly worse. Then my husband asked me to try Christian Science. I consented and had one treatment, but could not believe that I must take no medicine. The next day I went to a third doctor. He told me I had stomach trouble and should eat just as little as possible, dry bread only. He stated that I was in a bad condition, the disease might become chronic, that I would have to suffer for years to come, and must drink no water. I was very hungry and thirsty. My husband then said, I might eat what I liked, it could do me no harm, but that I would feel better for it. I did so and felt better.
