The Senate Post Office Committee has made an important change in the Post Office bill as it came from the House. The House raised the salary of rural carriers from $600 to $720 a year as an offset for taking away the privileges as canvassers for newspapers and express companies.

The Senate Committee has adopted the following wording:—

Carriers shall not solicit business or receive orders of any kind for any person, firm, or corporation, and shall not, during their hours of employment, carry any merchandise for hire.
