Easter Day

"Awake ! put on thy strength, O Zion!" for Easter Day has come;
The new-born earth from bondage loosed, no longer blind and dumb,
Has seen the brightness of the glory of the risen Star,
And on this happy morn, across the eastern sky, the bar
Of coming light illumines man, and lifts desire
To holier thoughts and deeds, and song caught from celestial
choir.

"Awake! awake! put on thy strength, "O child of God!

And thou shalt be with truth and love and understanding
shod.

And with the consciousness of the eternal Christ baptized
In Him, shalt be no more a worm, rejected and despised.

The Comforter has come, and we have learned the song,
and sing
Of joy triumphant, for the earth has now received her King!
