As an expression of gratitude for the many blessings...
As an expression of gratitude for the many blessings Christian Science has brought to me, I wish to give the following testimony. About fourteen months ago, while visiting a friend, I was taken violently ill with all the symptoms of pneumonia. Several years before I had had this disease and with nearly fatal results, and since that time had more or less fear of its return, and like Job, the thing I feared came upon me.
After passing through a night of intense suffering, a practitioner, seventy miles away (we lived in the country) was sent for. She arrived in a few hours and found me, to mortal sense, in a most alarming condition. Both lungs were attacked, and breathing was so difficult and painful that every breath was a struggle. After her arrival the relief was almost instantaneous, and in a short time I was able to lie down and sleep peacefully. In three or four days I was up and around as usual and took quite a long drive during which a heavy shower of rain fell, and although I was quite well protected from it, a great fear of relapse came, and the next day it seemed necessary to send for the practitioner again. She came and there was no relapse, and in a short time I was as well as usual.
Years before, when suffering from the same disease though not in so severe a form,—under materia medica I was confined to my bed about three weeks, had the most sparing diet, took quantities of medicine, including a great amount of whiskey to stimulate me. Under Christian Science with much more severe symptoms, I was up in three days, and with no medicine but Truth.
