Christian Science and the Baltimore Fire

Wilmington (N. C.) Morning Star

Editor of the Star.

My attention has just been called to a short article in your good paper of the 10th, taken from the Richmond Times Dispatch, to the effect that the Christian Scientists of Baltimore "threw thoughts" upon the fire instead of water, and that their property was saved. No doubt all who call themselves Christians know that the greatest comfort and blessing of our lives is the certainty that God is our great Source and resource, "a very present help in trouble."

If a good Methodist, or Presbyterian, or Catholic, or Baptist, were to have rejoiced and thanked God that his prayers had been answered, and that he and his family and his possessions had been saved from that dreadful conflagration, would our correspondents and editors have been so lacking in reverence as to make light of the matter? Would they have allowed it to be said in their columns that such worthy Christians had "thrown prayers" upon the fire?
