The Alaskan Boundary Commission began its sessions at London last week. Lord Chief Justice Alverstone was chosen chairman. The tribunal will sit five days a week from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. Three of the counsel for each Government will make arguments, the British opening, and being followed alternately by Americans and British. This will give the advantage of the closing argument to the British. October 9 was decided upon as the date for finishing the oral arguments.

The cup defender Reliance outsailed the challenger, Shamrock III., in three successive races, and the "America's Cup" is still safe. Not a single race has been won by any one of the three challengers, Shamrock I., II., III. The expense in connection with the three challengers of Sir Thomas Lipton has been estimated at $2,100,000. The cost to the two countries since 1886 is estimated at $6,000,000.

The Peruvian Government has granted to Alfred MacCune, an American, a concession to build a railroad from a port in the Province of Chancay to points on the line between Orroyo and Cerropasco, and to Herbert Selleck, another American, for a concession for a railway from Port Huacho to Picuncha, where there is coal.
