A Letter of Explanation

Chicago Record Herald

To the Editor.

An article in your issue of August 29 in relation to the Christian Science Church Manual includes, in two paragraphs, the mention of my name and my utterances. I do not know that your correspondent intended it should be inferred that all the conclusions and deductions contained in the article are sanctioned or authorized by me, but such seems to be the impression on the part of many who have read it.

For this reason I request permission to say that very much of the article, which is by way of speculative interpretation of the import of the provisions of said Manual, is entirely contrary to my understanding of the matter and to the knowledge and intent of the officials of our church.
