Among the Churches
The Work in Council Grove, Kan.
Although not yet organized as a church, but only a society, we now occupy two rooms that we have nicely furnished. Every need has been met as we proceeded in the work, and we rejoice in the success of our labor knowing that it is God who worketh with us to will and to do of His own good pleasure. We have a nice little Sunday School, which kindly presented the society with the organ, so they might have a part in our progress. We all with one accord send greetings to our dear Leader, through the Sentinel, giving thanks for Science and Health, which has given us an understanding of the Bible, whereby all things have become new to us, "behold all things are new."
MARY W. BRODERSON.
The Work in the Philippine Islands.
We completed our organization as the Christian Science Society of Manila a year ago the sixteenth of March. A literature committee was formed and good work was done but there was such a quanity of literature on hand that another committee was appointed in July to distribute throughout the islands. Besides that which has been taken no account of there has been distributed eight hundred and fifty Sentinels, one hundred and ten Journals, five hundred Lectures, and forty-six Reprints. The Society supports a number of extra subscriptions to the Journal and Sentinel and keeps a supply of other literature on hand. We mailing more than one hundred packages a month.
There are in the American Library three copies of Science and Health and three of "Miscellaneous Writings;" in the civil prison one of Science and Health and one of "Miscellaneous Writings," besides pamphlets, Journals, Sentinels, and Lectures; and in the military prison two copies of Science and Health, and we have recently been granted the privilege of sending our papers to the prisoners.
We wish to express here our love and gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and the co-workers everywhere.
GEORGE F. GADDIS, Clerk.
Church Organization in South McAlester, I. T.
With great joy we announce the organization of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of South McAlester, I. T., March 8, 1903, with ten members.
About April, 1900, two seekers for truth began reading the Lesson-Sermons in the home of one of them; neighbors and friends kept increasing the number until January, 1901. Although it seemed that rooms could not be found in the business district, one of our members was able to make arrangements for the use of the Business Men's League rooms in the Diebler Building which we held as sublessees, during a change of lessees, and on March I of this year, through the assistance of the same member who secured the Diebler Hall, we secured the Elks Hall for our exclusive use. This is the most desirable location in the town.
On February 17, 1902, we organized as a society with seven members; the 23rd three more came in with us We have had several of our most earnest workers called to other fields on account of business changes, but we are able to start our church with ten and to arrange for a lecture on March 20. Judge Ewing was with us, and we know this will do much for our Cause.—A. G. PECK, Clerk.
The widow's mite that went tinkling through the brazen throat of the treasury is sounding yet; the escaping fragrance of the alabaster box fills the world with sweetness.
